The Hard Corps

What can you expect from an action movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme in the lead role? The movie is full clichés and routine based dialogues which is very common in movies with such category. However, it functions very well as a time killer on a Saturday night.

Pan’s Labyrinth

Pan’s Labyrinth is a Spanish movie, and falls into the category of adventure drama. The story takes place during the Second World War, and is about a step-daughter of a captain. She moves into a house in the forests, and there she finds over natural powers which tries to take her into the forests and give her some fairy tale experiences.

The movie was good, and had a good background score. In fact, the background music reminded me of the background score of Million Dollar Baby which was really great.

The minus is the drama element, which makes the movie slowly.

Erin Brockovich

Erin Brockovich came in 2000, and is directed by Steven Soderbergh who has also given us movies like Traffic, Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve.

Erin Brockovich is loaded with funny dialouges, and in the meanwhile it has an interesting story and screenplay.

Den Brysomme Mannen (The Bothersome Man)

The Norwegian movie “Den Brysomme Mannen” (The Bothersome Man) is about a man who comes to a city which is perfect. People are so nice to him and the society is just so perfect. After a while he realises that people are so cold. They are only worried about materialistic things and there is huge lack of feelings.

I liked the concept of the movie very much, but the story in itself wasn’t so exciting. It is a reflection of how today’s society can be developed into the future. The episodes which are described in the movie also give laughs some times.

I See You

This flick produced by Arjun Rampal met a disastrous destiny at the box office and was failed. Therefore, I wasn’t that excited for this movie anymore, which I actually was after listening to the music. Anyway, the movie wasn’t that bad after all. It had some funny scenes, and the greatest advantage the movie had was it’s music.

Nishabd

I began to watch Nishabd last weekend, but I liked it that much that I recommended it to every customer. Because of this, the limited stock of the DVDs went out of stock shortly after so I had to wait till today to watch the rest of it. In the meanwhile, I watched the trailer a number of times, which you also can do at the following link You Tube.

Therefore, it shouldn’t be a surprise that I liked Nishabd very much. It’s a love story between a 60 year old man and 18 year old girl. Since this is a controversial topic, lots of people have decided to not watch this movie. For those guys, I have to say that despite the special topic, the movie is so well made technically that it is worth to watch it anyway. Off course, this requires some open mind ness and to forget the controversial part of the story for some moments.

In order to present the story optimally, there has been used various techniques. For instance, the use of blue as the background colour functions really nice to further the dark side of the love story. In addition, the background music was simply T E R R I F I C and
A M A Z I N G. A major part of the movie experience was connected to the excellent background score. The music gives feeling of both the traditional sweet love story and the “forbidden love”. Really well done and two thumbs up only for the music itself. There were some tunes which were from the previous movies of Ram Gopal Varma; Naach and Sarkar, but they functioned very well in this setting as well.

Amitabh Bachchan and Jiah Khan have acted well. Especially Jiah has succeeded to show both the innocent side and some shades (sexy) evil. Moreover, I must say that the movie tells about the mentality of today’s youths that they will do whatever they want, but when it comes to the terms, there are lots of things which should be taken into consideration to make a rational decision.

Prison Break - Season 1

After numerous recommendations about Prison Break, I gave it a chance. The series is good and interesting. It has interesting characters, and the actors have shown different shades of them with nice results. However, the series falls into the trap of drag the story too slowly which I experienced in the middle of the season. But the makers probably realised that and moved story forward.

The series had very exciting and intense episodes in the end. Great work!

Pitbullterje

I didn’t understand why so many people took this movie to their hearts!? It’s just a normal OK movie. Actually, it had a promising start but went some boring afterwards.

Running Scared

This action flick is just an average movie. The makers have tried to have a unique concept, and it had some cool camera angles. However, overall it’s just an average movie with some clichés.

Sirkelens Ende

Sirkelens Ende is written by Tom Egeland, and was published in 2003. There are various similarities between Da Vinci Code and this book in terms of the topic of the book. This book didn’t got so much popularity when it came but after the huge success of Da Vinci Code, it is among the literature which has flown high on the trend of Da Vinci Code kind of books.

Sirkelens Ende is interesting, but it does not have high page turner factor as Da Vinci Code which was more of a thriller. Therefore it got is boring sometimes. In addition, this was the first book I have read by Tom Egeland, and the writing style is not what I prefer.

Eklavya - The Royal Guard

I do not have any expectations from movies which are multi-starers. There are simply too many of them who do not live up to expectations. Despite this fact, multi-starrer Eklavya has trailers which create suspense to watch it.

The story of Eklavya is really unique, and you can safely say that it is “hat ke”. The screenplay uses dialogues which are right to the point, and it doesn’t have any unnecessary or disturbing characters. This has also lead to the limited length of the movie which consists of 1 hour and 45 minutes. Do we really need boring movies with more length?

I really enjoyed watching Eklavya, and it has its own style of creating intense atmosphere, and you are going to ask in you mind “what’s gonna happen now”. Moreover, Saif Ali Khan and Boman Irani have again proven their acting skills in addition to the other actors.

The production house of Vidhu Vinod Chopra (director and producer of the movie) has given us a number of good movies, i.e. Munna Bhai MBBS, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai etc, so we should really look forward to projects from this point. However, it seems like that the movie has flopped in India, which indicates that public does not prefer these kinds of movies. They instead run movies from Yash Raj studios to blockbusters, and those movies has tendency to be based on the well-used formulas. Does public really like to know what they are going to see instead of giving chance to new and fresh ideas like Eklavya?

Traffic Signal

It seems like that after the success of Page 3 and Corporate, the director of those movies, Madhur Bhandarkar, is really into making movies with some particular and interesting topics. In this process, this time he has been too worried about the topic, and forgot to attach a story to the topic. Traffic Signal is well-made and describes the environment good enough. But the lack of a story gives some boredom.
