Taare Zameen Par

Nice, touching and emotional movie. It is directed by Aamir Khan, who tries his hands on directing for the first time, and has handled this job very well.

The story is about Ishaan, eight years old boy, who struggles at the school. His parents send him to a boarding school in order to be disciplined, which doesn’t help at all. One day, a new teacher arrives and things start changing…

The topic is just so untypical for a bollywood movie, that in it should be a great advantage. All in all, a great movie for the whole family without worrying about any inappropriate scenes.

Sunshine

Interesting sci-fiction movie. The story is about that the sun is about to pension itself, so 8 people are being sent from the earth to drop a bomb at the sun in order to “recharge” it. I found particularly the role characters in the movie interesting.

Nice movie. It came in 2001, but I didn’t got chance to watch it until now.

Paulo Coelho: The Zahir

A read the The Alchemist earlier this year and found it ok. Therefore, I gave Zahir a chance too since it is from the same author. I didn’t had so high expectations, but Zahir surprised me highly positively. It is about life, passion, relationships and love.

I think this one is going to be one of my favourite books. During reading it, there were moments I considered to give it top rating (sixer), but I was somehow disappointed with the ending and some places in the book, so the final grading is going to be following…

Babel

What a depressing and boring movie. I knew that this one is not my kind of movie, but after a recommendation I bought it and gave it a chance. After an hour, I had to give up. Too depressing!

Desperate Housewives - Season 2

I will continue to comment from where I finished about the previous season of this series. The series still have interesting stories from day-to-day activities with some hilarious moments. Definitely a must watch!

Strangers

An interesting thriller! It has one of my favourite actors, Kay Kay Menon, who has given a good performance in this film. The wild card in this movie was Jimmy Shergill, who has surprised a lot with his great performance.

The movie has a special style for telling the story, which will remind of English movies.

Leon

This movie came in 1994. I bought it in 2001 or 2002. I watched it for the first time last night. Despite it’s so old, and I’m not so huge fan of such old movies, I liked it. It has nice combination of thriller suspense, drama and action. The story is about a girl who witnesses her family been assassinated, and escapes to her neighbour. The neighbour is a professional killer, which the girl doesn’t know. The rest of the story is about what happens in these two peoples lives.

The story of the bollywood flick Bichhoo from 2000 was inspired from this one. In addition, the execution of the end in Maqbool was also very much inspired from this movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest

Cool and adventurous action movie just like the previous movie in this series. It succeeds to combine action with comedy and a descent story.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl

Cool and adventurous action movie. In order to understand the second movie in this series, I had to watch this one again to update myself with the previous story.

American History X

I was about to begin watching a TV-series and put the DVD in the player, and before I started this task, I zapped through TV channels to see what the TV world has to offer this Saturday evening. Then I came to a channel where they showed American History X. Despite that I’ve watched it twice before, I was amazed again. So I went down to my room, picked out the DVD for this movie, and watched it.

The movie was perfect just like earlier. It has great script, great cinematography, acting performances, visuals, story etc etc. So there shouldn’t be any surprise with following rating…

Agneepath

OK movie from 1990. For today’s generation; be aware of the typical bollywood clichés from 90’s when you watch this one.

Ute (Out)

Interesting criminal novel from Japan, which came in the end of 90’s. The author, Natsuo Kirino, have won award for this book as well.

The story deals around four women, which also can be regarded as the real desperate housewives. One of them, by accident kills her husband. In order to get rid of the body, her colleagues, the other three women help her. The rest of the story is about the characters, what they think, experience, and what kind of consequences this incident leads to.

The fresh thing with this book is the un-typical end, which I weight a lot. Criminal novels tend to follow a formula kind of concept, where a number of the novels in this genre, more or less, will have the same kind of structure of the story. In this book, you’ll feel that there is a difference. I think that such things help to make a difference between good and average novels. But the length of this novel, 552 pages (Norwegian edition), is not a motivating factor to read this one.

Smokin' Aces

As a friend of mine said about this movie; It has no story and the only focus lies in to make a cool movie with fast dialogues, lots of guns and several known actors. This is actually not far from reality. The movie had a thin start, and almost the first half was boring and the grading was touching near to 1. But then, in the second half and particularly during the last 30-45 minutes of the movie, it improved substantially. Then followed cool action scenes and nice background score, so this part of the movie in itself should be graded to 5. Therefore, an average of 3 is justifiable.

Spider-man 3

I am not a fan of Super-hero-movies, but still I liked the first two Spider-man-movies. Now, it seems like that I am really too fed up with this concept. The last movie in this series was average, and don’t find any reason to look forward to a sequel for this one.

Khoya Khoya Chand

OK and time pass movie about Bollywood set in 50’s/60’s. Actually, the beginning of the movie was more promising, but the rest was just OK.

Dus Kahaniyaan

Sanjay Gupta (Zinda, Musafir, Kaante ++) has produced this so-called movie which consists of 10 different short-movies with their own stories. It is surprising to see that after the great failure of similar projects like “Darna Mana Hai” and “Darna Zaroori Hai”, the makers have given this concept a new chance. It seems like that this project has met the same destiny as its similar previous, namely flop at the box office.

The 10 stories have interesting topics, and at least a couple of them were really amazing. The music was good, and the visuals in the movie also did their job very well.

Casino Royale

I watched this one last year at the cinema. Of various reasons, I didn’t have the optimal experience, so I watched it again. (Click her for the previous comments). The movie was just excellent! Now, I had time to get known to character of James Bond and focus on other non-action elements in the movie. Therefore, I improve the rating as well:

Rating: 6 of 6

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

I bought this one in Mars, and particularly since my youngest brother was interested in watching it. Now, it was my time to experience it. After 45 minutes, I changed the movie. This one was too childish for me, and especially since most of the main characters were children. Simply, not my kind of movie. However, the limited experience let me knew that it was well-made.

American Gangster

American Gangster is directed by Ridley Scott, who has also given us Gladiator, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven etc etc. Therefore, I had some expectation from this movie. So this Saturday, I and a friend were sitting in the cinema hall with 9 other people to watch this one (one of the nine others left during the movie).

And then it began. Slowly, slowly and slowly the story evolved. The script was good, so movie wasn’t exactly boring, but unnecessary lengthy. The background score was good, and climax was also good executed.

When it comes to rate this movie, at the worst in the middle of the movie, I was considering to give it 2. But it picked up, and climax was good. Therefore, I find it difficult to give a correct rating, but I think the following isn’t that incorrect.

Rating: 3 of 6

Aaja Nachle

I didn’t have so much expectation to the comeback of Madhuri since I am not a huge fan of her. In addition, the trailers weren’t so exciting either. But the movie turned out to be surprisingly good. It has good songs which suits to situations in the movie, and some nice moments as well.

Kung Fu Hustle

A really great action comedy movie. The comedy could have been taken from a comic book, which is understandable to people here in the West as well. In addition, there has been worked on elements like sound design and visual design to give the movie a comedy look. The action scenes are also great and hilarious.

Team Antonsen - Volum 1

Miami Vice

I watched this movie last year on cinema, and it was a great experience. Therefore, it was a must have on DVD. The director of the movie, Michael Mann, has his own style of movie making, which you’ll notice here. The cinematography in his movie doesn’t only focuses on the main characters but also on other elements in the background. This gives you a different experience in terms of a more realistic picture, which doesn’t look like a common movie.

The movie has a very good sound design, which was amazing to experience in a cinema hall compared to on TV. The background music is also good, several good action scenes.

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal

The story of movie is similar to Chak De! India. The differences lies in different characters, dialogues etc. It will consume your time very easily, so it is a good alternative when you don’t have much to do.
