The Curious Case of Benjamin Button / Den fantastiske historien om Benjamin Button

Drama movie about life and death, inspired from a short story, about a man (Brad Pitt) who is born as old and ages in reverse by getting younger and younger. The first hour of the movie was boring, and a proportion of it could have been cut or done otherwise. Afterwards, the movie picked up with a nice climax and ending.

The movie is made by David Fincher, who has made several remarkable movies earlier, i.e. Zodiac, Fight Club, The Game and Se7en. The movie has several sub concepts, which are nice elements to the story and confirms that David Fincher is a story teller in his own division.

The Taking of Pelham 123 / Metro 123 Kapret

Cool and catchy action thriller, based on a novel and movie from 1970’s. The movie is cool edited, has several good cinematographically shots, all right background score and script. It’s made by Tony Scott, who has made several cool movies earlier, i.e. Déjà Vu, Man on Fire and Spy Game.

The story is somehow typical; a group of men hijack a metro train in New York and demand $10 millions. Despite the fact that this kind of stories have been used earlier tremendous times, this movie is treated that well that it is still interesting to watch. Actually, the rhythm of this movie reminded me of Speed, who also had a story about hijack (of a bus).

Denzel Washington and John Travolta deliver good performances, but Travolta’s voice wasn’t that matching to his look, but this can easily be ignored when you take other positive elements of the movie into consideration.

Chance Pe Dance

All right musical movie about a guy who struggles to get launched in a Bollywood movie. Actually, the trailers were funnier than the movie itself. The movie is loosely based on Shahid Kapoor’s experiences when he tried to enter Bollywood. The movie is made by Ken Ghosh, who has made better movies earlier (Ishq Vishk and Fida).

Ishqiya

All right movie, produced by Vishal Bharadwaj (i.e. Maqbool and Kaminey. Two street smart guys (Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi) come to Krishna (Vidya Balan) to overnight. But Krishna turns out to be a mysterious woman…

The movie has elements from different genre, i.e. humor, drama, action etc. It has its particular which is common for Bharadwaj movies. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, and this time, I think the result is just average.

Paa

Relatively uninspiring movie which is based on a genetic condition known as Progeria and is particularly about a father-son relationship. It’s about a 12 year old boy with Progeria, who is mentally normal but looks like 5 times older. And he is expected to live till he is 13 or 14 year old because of his illness. The boy is portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan, and his father is Abhishek Bachchan.

The movie has gained lots of success, both commercially and by critiques. For me, the movie is pretty much uninspiring with some humour and good climax.

8 x 10 Tasveer

Cool supernatural thriller with Akshay Kumar, made by Nagesh Kukunoor (i.e. 3 Deewarein and Iqbal). The movie is made in Canada, and has lots of beautiful outdoor locations. The story is following; Jai’s (Akshay Kumar) has a supernatural talent to go back in time by looking into a picture. His father dies, and a detective (Javed Jaffrey) approaches Jai claiming that his father’s death is suspicious. Jai first denies this, but later finds out that several people have strange motives which could have led to his father’s death…

The movie is well made and has several thrilling moments and twists. Unfortunately, it failed at the box office. Still, its regarded as one of Akshay Kumar’s favourite films he had done.

Green Zone

Super cool movie from the maker of last two Bourne movies (The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum), Paul Greengrass. This time, Matt Damon is playing the role of a warrant officer, Roy Miller. The movie is inspired from the non-fiction 2006 book “Imperial Life in the Emerald City” by a journalist. The story deals around the invasion of Iraq, because Bush & co with US intelligence had so-called proof of that Saddam Hussein was holding Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). So during the attack, Roy Miller is responsible to find these WMD, but where can he find them when they doesn’t exist? Roy starts investigating what actually is going on and unexpected things starts happening…

The movie has a very political message, and as mostly people know, Americans went to the war primarily because of oil and gas reserves. Despite the fact you know the background; the movie is highly suspenseful and entertaining. Its ending during the last 3-5 minuts of the movie was somehow clicheful, but otherwise it’s recommended entertainment. The execution style is pretty much like the last two Bourne-movies with handheld cameras to give a realistic approach. In addition, some of the execution also reminded of the war series Generation Kill.

Mein Ek Din Laut Kay Aaoon Ga

Pakistani movie from 2007 with Humayun Saeed.

- Story: good actually, but not so innovative if we’ve seen Karz earlier. The story seems to has been inspired by Karz actually.

- Script: horrible! Lots of illogical things happen, which simply are irritating

- Execution: awfull. This can also been together with the comments for the script

- Acting: reasonable by some actors, but the heroines performance were disastrous

The Cider House Rules / Siderhusreglene

Nice, good and somehow emotional drama about the life in an orphanage set in 1950’s. The movie is based on the well-known novel with same title. Tobey Maguire and Charlize Theron are some of the actors.

Bruno

Awful and totally bullshit movie from the maker of Borat. The movie deals around a gay, who strives to be famous and it is meant to be funny. The humor is basically almost totally below the navel-humor, and is not meant for families at all. This is not so surprising taking into consideration the fact who the maker is….Stay away from this cheap movie!
