Alias - Season 3

The third season of the action series Alias wasn’t exciting as expected. All the seasons so far which I’ve seen tend to have somehow boring first half and more exciting second half. In classical J.J. Abrams’s style, the series is too long and you’ll notice that the makers have expanded the length unnecessary just to make cash on it. In addition, many of the things you watch in it are kind of clichés. The series simply uses the same formula as in previous seasons, which doesn’t make it exciting at all.

However, it is all right entertainment and it will easily consume your time.

Slangebæreren

OK and interesting novel. I think that I didn’t liked it so much since it is over 10 years old, and there has been used old writing techniques.

Lady Vengeance

The Indian movie Zinda was actually a copy of a Korean movie; Old Boy. Old Boy is again a part in a trilogy, and the third part in this trilogy is Lady Vengeance. I’ve heard that the movies in the trilogy are about revenge, which also was case for Lady Vengeance. The movie is time passing. It won the Norwegian Amanda award for some weeks ago, which is a signal of that it is good. It has some interesting artistic views and moments, but for me it was too average to get a high rating.

Chak De! India

Well made movie with good script and direction and interesting characters. The second half was a little bit looser compared to first half.

The movie reminds somehow about Apne, which also is about sport and a little bit patriotic. But since Apne has “defined” the standard, this movie isn’t exactly the same as Apne and therefore gets following rating.

The Contract

Boring movie witn an uninspiring story. Simply misuse of Morgan Freemans’s acting skills.

Ek Rishtaa

Ek Rishtaa is a beautiful movie from 2001 with Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan about relationships. The movie has an interesting story and good and soulful music. But sometimes, you will notice that the movie lacks some scenes which could easily been added and other have been cut.

The movie provides interesting thoughts about business management and corporate governance, and I noticed it particularly since I have studied these topics myself.

Kaafila

Kaafila is a movie with an interesting topic which is illegal immigration. But here ends the pros of the movie. The movie has boring music, loose script and no soul. The characters are too childish. In such illegal trafficking circumstances shown in the movie, I think people are psychologically stressed and do not start singing and dancing every 15 minutes.! The makers should have been loyal to the genre, and not mixed up with other genre elements.

2001: A Space Odyssey

I have heard that ”2001: A Space Odyssey” from 1968 is ranked as classical work, and should be watched by every movie lover. Therefore, I gave it a chance and had to turn it off after one hour because it was simply too boring. Still, the use of classical music as the background score is good.

In today’s world, movie makers edit the movies the way to put as many scenes as they can in the limited length of the movie. 2001: A Space Odyssey is huge contrast compared to today’s edit techniques because story goes on too slowly.

Maqbool

Lots of people has seen the movie “Omkara” and liked it. One thing many people don’t know is that the director of Omkara, Vishal Bharadwaj, has also made a very good movie before Omkara which was Maqbool from 2004. Maqbool has a cast which isn’t so huge so the movie got unnoticed among public. Despite this, Maqbool is a classical piece of product from Bollywood. The story is actually inspired from one of William Shakespeare’s works, which also was case for Omkara. The movie is set in gangster/under world in Mumbai, which is nothing new in itself. The movie is actually different from many other under world movie, and focuses extensively on characters. The screenplay was also very good and the climax was beautifully executed.

Irfan Khan, Tabu and father of well known Shahid Kapoor; Pankaj Kapoor have all done a good job in the movie and portrayed powerful roles. The chemistry between Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri creates comic atmosphere.

X-Men 3 - The Last Stand

I am actually not a huge fan of movies which are based on comic books. Some of such movies have been good, but not all of them. X-Men series is just an OK set of movies. I think the movies don’t have inspiring stories at all, but the visuals and action sequences are good.

The Descent

Many people have comparead ”The descent” and ”The cave” since both of them can be put into scary movie category and both were released almost at the same time. Most of people have liked “the descent”, which I also do. The movie isn’t just another scary movie, which uses blood, intense atmosphere and sound effects to scare people. It also has drive by human characters and conflicts which give the movie another dimension. I think this is one of the best scary movies I eve have seen, and it let me think about the characters after the movie was finished. (I've put it as a hollywood movie, but it is an Australian or English movie).

Snakes on a Plane

“Snakes on a Plane” is one of the worst movies ever. It’s full of clichés and the so-called suspense in the movie is just uninspiring. The story/screenplay is full of things and action which are just so illogical. Actually, the movie is more a comedy and you laugh at the movie for how stupid it is.
