Dexter - Season 2

The plot in the second season of Dexter continues after where the story of first season ended. The first 3-4-5 episodes in this season aren’t that inspiring, but the show picked up afterwards.

Shutter Island

Interesting psychological thriller, made by Martin Scorsese with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. The film is based on the 2003 novel of the same name.

The plot is following: In 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his partner, Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), go to the Ashecliff Hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island. They are investigating the disappearance of Rachel Solando, and mysterious things starts happening to them and particularly Teddy Daniels…

For those of us who have seen various psychological thrillers earlier, the climax of this movie isn’t that surprising. Therefore, the climax wasn’t that unexpected. On the other hand, this kind of movies tends to have particular visuals, and Shutter Island also has nice visuals. In addition, the music is also powerful to give the proper experience of the atmosphere in the movie.

Rann

New movie from Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) who has made both extremely good and extremely boring movies. This time, the result is average. The movie deals around the role of media in politics and society, and it tells a story where media not only report news, but also make news….

The movie is well edited, and cinematography is also top class as always in RGV movies. Still, something was missing to give THE experience which some of RGV’s movies gives sometimes. Probably the script? Or probably the trailers which revealed too much of the story, and there weren’t anything surprising in the movie and everything too predictable?

Pyaar Impossible

I started to watch this movie in the middle of it since it was playing at home, and it grabbed my interest. The story is about a computer geek (Uday Chopra) who is in love with Alisha (Priyanka Chopra), but can’t tell her. In addition, he has a conflict going on with Dino Morea’s character.

As mentioned, the movie was interesting, but the climax and ending was too clichéful.

Jo Nesbø: Hodejegerne / The Headhunters

This novel is independent of Jo Nesbø’s earlier works, and isn’t about the character Harry Hole. The novel is interesting. Actually, the first 70-80 pages were relatively average, but after that the plot picked up a lot.

It is about Roger Brown, who is a successful and overconfident headhunter in the recruiting business. On an assignment, he meets Clas Greve, who Roger regards as perfect candidate for an executive position until Roger founds out something disturbing about him…

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

All right melo drama, almost just like Woody Allen’s earlier work. I probably had higher expectations for this movie, so I was a little bit disappoint with this one. Anyhow, for those who like Woody Allen movies, this is worth a watch.

Duplicity

All right drama comedy spy movie with Clive Owen and Julia Roberts. The movie is about two former spies who join the business world and use their earlier working techniques to make money.

The movie is all right funny, and gives sometimes feeling of being in a category like Ocean’s Eleven, but Duplicity tend to have too many kind of twists. After a while, you’ll notice that nothing is as it seems in the story which will make reduce involving too. On the other side, the movie has cool editing.

It is the director of Michael Clayton, Tony Gilroy, who has made this movie. He has earlier also written several scripts, i.e. Bourne movies.

Kurbaan

All right movie about the hot topic in these days; namely terrorism by Islamic fundamentalists. The movie is just average. It began well with fast editing and speed, but slowed down after around 40 minutes and thereafter focuses hugely on drama. New York with a similar topic was a better movie actually.

Gran Torino

Good drama from Clint Eastwood. He plays the role of a retired and recently widowed Korean War veteran, and is angry at the world around him. After an episode, where he saves his neighbour, they start making a relationship.

The film marks Eastwood's return to a lead acting role after four years after Million Dollar Baby, and Eastwood has stated that this is his final film as an actor. Sad news, but we hope that he’ll continue to make good movies in the future.

Eagle Eye

Interesting action thriller about a guy who gets a call and is forced to do some stuff, and thereby gets FBI after him. The phone calls continues coming, and the woman on the other side knows exactly where he is and what he is doing. Sometimes, it reminded of Enemy Of The State, but this one has its own treatment. All in all, well worth a watch.

Rocket Singh - Salesman of The Year

The movie is made by the team behind Chak De! India. Last time, their movie was about sports and hockey, and this time it’s about the particular field of sales. Harpreet Singh (Ranbir Singh) starts as salesman and experiences a world with corruption and other tricks to just get the sale deal. He takes the case in his hands, and tries to do something with it.

Watchmen

Another action drama based on comic novels. This movie has been appreciated for its treatment of this genre, but for me, just a waste of time! The movie is too lengthy, and the story is uninspiring. However, the visual effects are very good and very similar to 300.

The story is about watchmen, a group of superheroes, and some of them have even retired from their super hero jobs. But now, a killer is going around and killing them, which brings us to the tagline of the movie: Who will save us now? In it self, the plot seems interesting, but the major focus on the drama element in the story telling gives lots of boredom.

The superheroes here have also been given human characters, which probably is inspired by the new Batman and Spiderman movies. But still, the maker of 300 haven’t succeeded to make a movie which appeals to the masses which can watch movies in this genre.
