Fulltime Killer

Cool action thriller with good action scenes. I got this movie several years ago, and didn’t prioritise to watch it until now. The only thing I didn’t like with it was that some faces were too similar which made it difficult to know who the person was.

Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani

This was Shahrukh Khan’s first movie as a producer, and it was a flop at the box office. I think the destiny at the box office was well deserved. This one came in 2000, and I wasn’t so inspired to watch it. But last weekend, I didn’t found any other movie, so I gave this one a chance, which I shouldn’t have done.

The movie was full of cliché elements from movies in late 90’s, which wasn’t exactly inspiring… But it seems like Shahrukh Khan has learned from this failure, and improved the production quality of his later movies, i.e. Chalte Chalte, Kaal, Main Hoon Naa.

There were some good songs, which helped to increase the grading from one to two.

Rikets Røst

Funny TV-program. I didn’t have time to follow it when it was on TV, so I bought this DVD to watch the highlights from it.

Ladder 49

Interesting movie set in a firemen atmosphere. The movie succeeds to combine both the drama and intense suspense.

Saawariya

The latest adventure of Sanjay Leela Bhansali (from Black, Devdas, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Khamoshi) is called Saawariya, and is introducing children of two bollywood stars: Ranbir Kapoor; son of Rishi Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor; daughter of Anil Kapoor.

The story is based on a fiction place and the story is taking place during night time!!?!! There have been extensively use of theatrical elements in the movie, such as the focus on background sets and songs almost every minute. The use of theatrical elements worked in JAAN-E-MANN, but not here, because Jaan-e-mann succeeded in balancing between such effects and real life elements. In Saawariya, it is just too much theatre, which can irritate the movie watcher a lot. The music wasn’t so inspiring either.

Ranbir Kapoor has done a good job as an actor, but unfortunately, it seems like that it wasn’t the best career start. Especially if you look at it in terms of the numbers at box office, were the revenues started to decrease after some days of the film’s release.

Om Shanti Om

The film is inspired from Bollywood movies from 70’s and 80’s. In other words, you can also say that it is old masala in new format. I think that people will enjoy the movie a lot, but for me it was very average. The makers have been too loyal to bollywood concept from 70’s and 80’s, and that is too much. For instance, there are missing various logical explanations in the script and the story/climax is predictable. The makers could have experimented and combined with latest scripting techniques and thereby increased the movie quality.

A number of the jokes are based on bollywood industry, i.e. persons/actors, movies, clichés, music and inside jokes. The fresh humor is a major advantage of the movie.

The cool image of Shahrukh Khan in the second half was too cool and sometimes hard to consume.

The music was just average.

300

300 is a cool, creative and brutal action movie! The visuals are very nice, and give you feeling of living in a comic novel, which in fact the movie is based on as well. A number of the action scenes are in slow motion and where you see the performances in 360 degrees with high level of brutality. I don’t think you have seen such kind of action scenes in a war atmosphere before.

The screenplay was good too, but for me, it seemed too patriotic. In addition, as the author of the comic and screenplay mentioned, not everything in the movie is truth. But still, what an amazing movie experience!

Cash

Action movie which is stylish but has no substance to offer. Some of the action scenes are over dimensioned and the music is just time passing. The acting performances were OK.

Speed

The movie is copied from the American flick “Cellular”, which I think was an average thriller. The role of Zayed Khan is so childish, which also was case in the original movie. This was actually an irritating factor.

All in all, nothing extraordinary with this movie and the songs were boring too.

The Last King of Scotland

Nice and touching movie. The movie is based on a novel with same title about the dictator in Uganda; Idi Amin. The story is fiction, and not everything is taken from reality. One of the good things with the movie is that it not only focuses on the bad things about him, but also shows other aspects of his personality.

The actors have given very good and remarkable role interpretations, especially the role of Idi Amin and the Scottish boy. The visuals are nice, and cinematography was good too.

Boring action movie, but has some good action scenes. I actually fall asleep during watching it…

No Smoking

This is an art movie, which reminded me of movies from the American movie maker David Lynch. His last movies tend to be psychological thrillers, and at the end, you don’t understand what has happened, and have to watch the movie again. I actually like such kind of concepts.

No Smoking is also a psychological thriller/drama about smoking and cigarettes. Therefore, I would warn those who don’t like such kind of movies or dramas in general.

Jab We Met

Funny and romantic movie. Despite the fact that I am tired of both Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, I liked this movie. Kareena had a funny character where she likes to speak unstoppable and uses direct dialogues.

The writer and director Imtiaz Ali has previously also written Ahista Ahista, which I liked too. Moreover, he also wrote and directed Socha na Tha, which wasn’t so bad at all. Therefore, we should have an eye opened for projects from that corner in the future.

Fist of Legend

”Fist of Legend” is a Chinese kung-fu movie with Jet Li, and came in the middle of 90’s. Its story continues from where Fearless ended.

The movie has average entertaining value, and several good scenes.
