The Human Stain

OK drama movie with Nicole Kidman and Anthony Hopkins.

The Matador

I got interested in Matador when I looked at the poster where it was reviewed to be one of the funniest and smartest movies of the year. That is totally bullshit! The comedy was loooong below average, and I think I can write smarter screenplay than this one! All thumbs down for Rolling Stone who had given the previously mentioned review.

Aks

Aks came in 2001, and was one of the first stylish action movies with Amitabh Bachchan. It got good feedback among the public when it came, so I tried to watch it a couple of times. Both times, I only managed to watch mostly the 30 first minutes of the movie. So now, after watching the trailers for it on B4U Movie, I wanted to check it out and did it.

After watching the very stylish Ek Ajnabee in the same genre (action thriller), Aks seems some old fashioned compared to today’s standards. The story is interesting, and the writer has done a good job by going through a couple climax points.

Apocalypto

Apocalypto is the latest movie from Mel Gibson, the director of Passion of the Christ. When I watched the trailer of Apocalypto some months ago, it sounded like a movie about termination of whole civilization, and indicating Maya Indians or Egyptians, with the pyramids in the background. Instead the movie is not so much about that, and is only indicating at the ending what actually happened with Maya Indians.

The movie is loaded with lots of brutal scenes avec blood and various internal body parts in the open air….

The Weather Man

Nicholas Cage is brilliant in this movie. However, I thought that this movie is going to be as good as Adaptation (another drama movie with Nicholas Cage), which wasn’t the case. Regardless of this, The Weather Man has good script and is well executed.

Alkymisten

Alkymisten (The Alchemist) by Paulo Coelho is one the most of popular books, and has sold over 30 millions copies world wide since it came in 1988. Probably, I do not need to say this because lots of those who are reading this blog, has also read this book. Since so many people had recommended this book, and I got as a birthday gift, I started reading it. After reading 20 pages in a working day and the rest of the book on Sunday, it was finally read. I must say that since it has got so much positive attention, I had great expectations to it. But the book seems to be philosophical, and EVERY ONE who recommended the book forgot to tell me about this small detail. So when I was reading, I couldn’t put the book into any particular category. Finally I found out that it can be called philosophical, which made it easy to understand the book.

However, the book provides another interesting philosophy perspective, and wasn’t so surprising for me at all. I think that for those people who haven’t given so much time to philosophical thinking, may find this book more surprising than others. And consequently, they will like it more.

Despite all these things I have mentioned, the book was good with an interesting story and thoughts.

Paparazzi

Good movie and interesting story about an upcomming action star in Hollywood. He experiences issues with some paparazzis which can remind you of the accident of Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed who were hunted by so-called photographers.

Bhagam Bhag

It seems like that the comedy magic of Priyadarshan has been used up. The movie provides nothing new, and is mainly based on the past formulas used by Priyadarshan. But still, it is funny.

The Last Juror

The Last Juror is a good book with an interesting story. It was my first my book by John Grisham, and I liked the style of his writing. However, it took too long time to reach the “main point” of the story which is indicated in synopsis and by the title, which can be misleading sometimes.

The Cave

I didn’t had so many expectations from The Cave since I heard some bad critics of it from a friend, and who instead recommended The Descent, which was a great movie in this category of movies.

However, since I didn’t have so many expectations for The Cave, I got surprised when it turned out to be okey. The first 30 min were cliché-based with some bad dialogues. Afterwards, it got better with traditional thriller where non-humans are hunting humans avec some blood effects etc etc.

Pusher II

Damn good action drama based on underworld in Copenhagen (Denmark). The special thing about the movie is the balance between action and the focus on the characters (drama).

Mads Mikkelsen is excellent in his character.

Desperate Housewifes - Season 1

Very interesting series! Despite the fact that it sounds like boring stories about some housewives, the writer has succeeded to make interesting stories with drama and suspense. The interesting thing is that the writer is homosexual, and it is amazing how he has made so remarkable stories about housewives without even “been in touch with women in such roles”.

The Norwegian title of the series is "frustrated wives", which I think is a better description of the women.
