U Me aur Hum

Nice love story. The first half part is like just another comedy love story, but right at the intermission, the movie takes a dramatic turn which makes the movie more ”hat ke” This is the first movie which Ajay Devgan not only plays in, but has written, produced and directed it as well. And the result is good.

The Rising - The Ballad of Mangal Pandey

Historical movie about the so-called great East-Indian Company, which was dealing with horrible action in the name of trade during the occupation period in Hindustan (Pakistan and India) in the 19th century. The historical Mangal Pandey took action, and this what the movie is about.

Mars & Venus

En helt ålreit romantisk drama. Det kreative ved denne filmen er at den begynner hvor de fleste andre kjærlighetsfilmer slutter; nemlig etter at paret har funnet hverandre og gifter og etablerer seg. Denne filmen tar for seg utfordringer man kan møte i slike fohold, f.eks. karriere, barn, husarbeid osv. Dette temaet er i seg ikke så nytt med tanke på at dette er tatt opp i to blockbustere fra Bollywood; Chalte Chalte og Saathiya som begge kom i 2003.

Casino

Casino is made by the award winning Martin Scorsese, who also has made several other remarkable movies. Some people regard Casino as a sequel to Goodfellas, and both movies deals around mafia. I liked both movies, but I will regard the storytelling in Casino somehow under-dramatised.

Naach

Naach is an artistic romantic drama movie made by Ram Gopal Varma (RGV), and it flopped at the box office. Abhishek plays the role of a struggling actor, and Antra Mali plays the role a struggling choreographer with new ideas. The story is about giving chances to new ideas instead of following the established formula of success. I think that the story is inspired from the career of RGV where he has been giving chances to new talents with both success and failure. In the meanwhile, other movie makers have made movies based on established clichés and success formulas. Anyhow, these comments can also be regarded as speculations.

Naach is a nice movie, but maybe too artistic. That was probably the reason for why it didn’t work commercially.
