Dev.D

This is the modern version of the Devdas, where Dev doesn’t get his Paro and starts destroying himself. In the blockbuster Devdas from 2002 (avec Shahrukh Khan), it was targeted towards multiple segments of audience, i.e. families. This time, it is mainly targeted towards adults, and it is definitely not a family movie. Danny Boyle from Slumdog Millionaire fame has also contributed in this movie, probably inspired to make some of the scenes in England.

The movie is made by Anurag Kashyap, who also made No Smoking. Abhay Deol plays the role of Dev, and has done a good job. Unfortunately, I don’t like such “love stories” like Devdas, which also affect the review of the story. Still, the movie is all right entertainment for youths.

Actually I loved this film, not so much because of the love- angle but because it shows brilliantly how the so-called modern relationships between couples still cannot escape the duality and the hypocrisy of our culture, where a man can openly show his desire but a woman doing so is a slut.
Personally,I thought Dev was a big loser and he had it coming!! But then again being the wrong gender am probably very biased:-D
